They said yes under a wooden arch draped in white, in the middle of the park at Brdo, with the whole tent on its feet as they kissed. Then came rice and confetti, bridesmaids in sunglasses by the lake, a slow walk over the wooden bridge and a terrace full of golden evening light.

Brdo is Slovenia's protocol estate near Kranj, with more than 500 years of history, a castle, a landscaped park and two small lakes with islands. On a clear day the Kamnik-Savinja Alps rise behind the park, and Ljubljana airport is only a short drive away, which makes it practical for international guests.
We started with the quiet details: the dress waiting on its hanger, pearl clutch and perfume, white roses in her hands. The ceremony was outdoors in the park, so the light was soft and the guests stood close, ready with rice and confetti.
Brdo is made for portraits. A few minutes walk from the ceremony there are lakes, wooden bridges and the white balustrade terrace, so the two of you can have beautiful photos without long breaks from your guests. As the sun went down we finished with sparklers over the cake and a slow first dance.
It was elegant, but never stiff. The bridesmaids couldn’t stop laughing, the bride’s veil kept catching the wind at the perfect moment, and when the sparklers lit up the cake late in the evening they were both grinning like children.
