CastelBrando rises on a rock above the village of Cison di Valmarino, in the Prosecco hills between Venice and the Dolomites. Its origins go back to Roman times, it was enlarged in the Middle Ages and for centuries it belonged to the Brandolini family. Today it is a hotel with around fifty rooms, reached by a funicular from the village.

It is made for weddings big and small: ceremonies in the inner courtyards, in the 18th-century church of San Martino inside the walls or as a civil rite, aperitivo on panoramic terraces and receptions for up to several hundred guests. It was a finalist for the best international wedding venue at the UK Weddings & Honeymoons Awards.

The funicular ride up to the castle is a wonderful little moment to photograph, and the terraces look out over vineyards and mountains. I would plan portraits in the courtyards and on the Terrazza San Martino as the hills turn gold.
