Vila Vipolže was carefully restored and reopened in 2015 as a venue for events and celebrations. Its white façade, frescoed rooms and the vineyards just outside the gate make it easy to move from elegant interiors to open countryside in a few minutes. Brda lies right on the Italian border, next to the Collio wine region.
The ceremony in the frescoed hall was so full of emotion that half the room was wiping tears. Later, in the evening sun, we slipped away into the hills for twenty minutes, then danced the couple straight into the wine cellar for dinner.
Some moments still make me smile: the groom kissing his grandmother’s hand before the ceremony, a close friend walking the bride in and giving her away with a long hug, the two of them throwing their arms in the air the moment they were married. Later the family’s golden retriever did the rounds at the aperitivo, quite sure every plate was for him.
This gallery shows a wedding at Vila Vipolže, a Renaissance villa in Goriška Brda, Slovenia, photographed by AlbumWeddings, a wedding photographer based in Slovenia. It covers getting ready in the villa, a ceremony in the frescoed hall, petals and toasts in the courtyard, sunset portraits among the vineyards and palm trees, and dinner and dancing in the wine cellar.
Yes. Vila Vipolže and the Brda region are close to home for me, and travel there is included.
Late afternoon into sunset. The light over the vineyards turns warm and soft, and the quiet roads around the villa are perfect for relaxed portraits.
Yes. Brda borders Italy’s Collio, so many couples host guests on both sides of the border. I photograph welcome dinners and events in Italy too.
