Castello Odescalchi rises over the town of Bracciano and its lake, a short drive north of Rome. The castle was built in the 15th century by the Orsini family around an older medieval fortress, and its towers, frescoed halls and terraced garden have made it one of the most famous wedding castles in Italy.
It is wonderfully practical too: the town hall for a civil wedding is right next door, the church of Santo Stefano is beside the castle, and guests can fly into Fiumicino and stay in Rome. From the terraced garden you look out over the lake and the nature reserve around it.
Photographing your wedding here
I would use the castle courtyards for your first moments as a married couple and then walk up to the terraces for portraits with the lake behind you. The towers look magical at blue hour, so I like to steal five minutes after sunset for a final, more dramatic photo.

Bracciano is a short drive north of Rome and not far from Fiumicino airport, which makes it easy for international guests.
A civil wedding can be held at the Bracciano town hall right next to the castle, and the church of Santo Stefano is beside it for a Catholic ceremony.
