La Cervara, the Abbey of San Girolamo al Monte di Portofino, was founded in 1361 on the coastal road between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino. It was fortified against pirates, briefly held the French king Francis I after the Battle of Pavia in 1525, and was declared an Italian national monument in 1912.
Its terraced Italian garden faces the sea, with boxwood hedges, topiary, a 17th-century marble fountain, citrus trees and medicinal herbs. Today the abbey is privately owned and hosts concerts, cultural events and private celebrations, including weddings.
Photographing your wedding here
Few places combine history and sea like this. I would photograph you between the clipped boxwood and the fountain, then on the terraces above the water, where the light over the Gulf of Tigullio turns soft and golden towards evening.
