Villa Subaglio stands on the Subaglio hill in Merate, in the Brianza between Milan and Lake Como. It was built in the early 1700s; records from 1721 list it as the property of Marquis Giovanni Rescalli, and in 1883 it was bought by the Prinetti brothers. Over the years it welcomed royal and ducal guests, including the Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany.
The villa has five large halls. In front of it a terraced Italian garden with a boxwood parterre and old stone statues looks down from a Baroque balustrade, and behind it a vast English park is crossed by a long tree-lined avenue. Today the villa hosts receptions and private events.
Photographing your wedding here
The balustrade, the boxwood parterre and the long avenue give a lot of variety in a few steps. I would plan the ceremony on the terraces and walk you down the avenue for portraits as the sun drops behind the trees.
